Cet article propose l’analyse d’un des volets du processus de normalisation carcérale : la transformation du modèle sécuritaire via l’avènement de la sécurité dynamique. Articulant impératif sécuritaire et instauration d’un espace social intra-muros, cette conception alternative du maintien de l’ordre repose sur la redéfinition de la relation carcérale. Il s’agit alors d’examiner la façon dont la tension entre sécurité et droit se manifeste dans le cadre de ces reconfigurations organisationnelles. À partir d’une enquête menée dans une prison française, on interroge les effets de cette nouvelle approche de la sécurité sur le rôle des surveillants dans l’organisation carcérale, ainsi que sa réception par les agents.
This article allows us to return to one of the aspects that can be deduced from the process of prison normalisation : the transformation of the security model via the advent of the idea of dynamic security. Articulating security imperatives and setting up a social space behind bars, this alternative model of maintaining order relies on the redefinition of relations in the prison environment. It consists in examining the incidences of the tension between security and law in the organizational reshaping caused by normalisation. Based on an empirical study carried out in a French prison, the author questions the effects of this new security approach on the role of prison officers in prisons, as well as reactions amongst the prison staff.
